Given the difficulty in finding them as spare parts, I have crafted some line-attached anti-skating weights.
This weight is made of bronze and weighs 4.2 g. At Clinamen, we favor the use of high-mass tonearms paired with low-compliance cartridges. This combination leads to a considerable centripetal force generated by the record's rotation, and the weights offered by manufacturers are very often insufficient to balance the skating force.
Bronze is an exceptionally inert material (when of adequate thickness) and is suitable for all high-quality applications. The kit I offer comes supplied with line and small lead sinkers to lock the line inside the weight's pass-through hole. The underside of the weight features a blind hole that allows the stop sinker to be hidden from view.
While respecting the schools of thought that consider compensating for skating force unnecessary with high-mass tonearms, I believe—based on tests I have conducted—that precise anti-skating compensation leads to a much more balanced sound, better stereophonic imaging, and significantly lower record wear. Above all, it prevents deformations from developing on the elastomer supporting the cartridge's cantilever.
PRICE
The kit is sold for 40 euros plus shipping costs and comes supplied with a specific high-strength line (10 kg tensile strength) with a low-friction surface treatment.
