16 GIUGNO 2025
For sale, exceptionally, the platter and spindle of the Clinamen CL12 turntable. In 2026, I will introduce an updated version, so I am making available for purchase this last pair of spindle + platter that I have in stock.
The platter is made of Ergal aluminum alloy, with a diameter of 320 mm, weighing approximately 5 kg, but with a very high moment of inertia (I use "but" because the achieved moment of inertia of 730 kg·cm² is usually reached with much heavier platters). I want to emphasize that the weight of the platter is not what matters, in fact! Heavy platters load the spindle significantly, which, if not properly designed, can suffer from excessive load. What should be sought is a high moment of inertia, achievable through an appropriate mass distribution geometry as taught by Structural Engineering.
The spindle has a diameter of 12 mm and is made of CORRAX steel, with a surface aging treatment that increases hardness.
The hub of the spindle is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, while the bushings are CNC tin-bronze.
The thrust pad is made of bronze with a 8 mm silicon nitride ball that transfers the weight of the plate above a widia plate treated with TIN surface coating.
You can see what this low-friction spindle and high-inertia platter combination is capable of in the video I link (the video was shot in June 2025 with the pair for sale in this ad).
The purchase must be made by someone capable of independently implementing the construction. I cannot provide post-sale details regarding the installation of the sold material. Before the sale, I will provide all necessary measurements for the buyer to evaluate dimensions and mounting.
The platter can be rotated either with an external belt drive system engaging on the outer diameter of 320 mm, or via a pulley system—vertical like in Lenco turntables, or engaging on the inner circumference of the platter, as in Garrard 301 and 401 models.
